minutesChristmas Tree Bread – it’s the kind of bread I couldn’t wait to make. Although countless recipes are everywhere, not one was to my liking. I wanted a different bread, a little more unusual because this is exactly what made it special. I chose to make bread rolls with cottage cheese because I thought it was an interesting idea. Guaranteed success, the bread dough with cottage cheese represented a more than-perfect base for my recipe. Adding a filling consisting of smoked cheese, walnuts, and green onions, I managed to form some bread rolls that were not only good-looking but also delicious. I’d like you to follow the recipe step by step to see how I made my own lovely Christmas tree bread.
Ingredients
700 g of flour400 ml of milk
80 g of butter
50 ml of oil
150 g cottage cheese
1 teaspoon sugar
15 g of salt
7 g of yeast
200 g of smoked cheese
100 g Parmesan cheese
100 g walnuts
1 egg
a few strands of green onion
2 tablespoons milk
cumin, sesame, poppy seeds, and coarse salt for decoration
Directions
- I started by activating the yeast in a small bowl. I added sugar, 2-3 spoons of warm milk and a few spoons of flour and left to rest for 10 minutes on the kitchen table. In the bowl of the food processor, I added the rest of the flour, then the yeast, the salt, the warm milk and I mixed until the ingredients were incorporated. Next came the cottage cheese, the soft butter and the oil, the last one I added gradually. I covered the dough with foil and left it to rise for 1 hour or until it doubled in size.
- In the meantime, I took care of the ingredients with which I will fill the previously formed dough. I chopped the green onion not very finely, I did the same with walnut kernels. I grated the smoked cheese finely, as well as the parmesan.
- The dough rose wonderfully! I put some flour on the table and took out the dough. I stopped about a quarter of it and kneaded it gently, taking care not to include too much flour. I formed 3 long sticks that I braided tightly. This will be the basis of our bread – the “Earth” for my tree.
- I rolled the rest of the dough into a large sheet with the help of a rolling pin. Try to stretch the sheet as thin as possible. I sprinkled the smoked cheese, green onions and walnuts on the sheet. I then rolled the sheet, very tightly and carefully cut it into 14 rolls.
- I started assembling the Christmas tree, arranging the bread rolls using a large tray lined with baking paper. I left a little space between the rolls, because the dough has risen. At the base I placed the braided bread, and from the leftover dough I created small decorations for the tree. I covered the pan with foil and left it for 30-40 minutes to rise.
- After the bread rolls and braided bread doubled in volume, I removed the foil. In a small bowl, I mixed the egg with the milk and greased the rolls and the braided bread. I decorated The Stuffed Cottage Cheese Bread Rolls with a mix of seeds of your choice, and then I sprinkled a little coarse salt.
- I sprinkled finely grated parmesan over the entire surface and put the tray in the oven. I baked the filled rolls at 170 degrees for 35-40 minutes. The Christmas tree bread, browned nicely and the smell from the kitchen was deliciously irresistible.
- The final result was beyond measure, and I’m very proud of it, that’s why I chose to share this wonderful recipe with you! The bread is very fluffy, the rolls come off easily the taste of cheese with walnuts is a perfect combination. See you next time!
